Julia Molino is a consultant specializing in brand-building
communications with an emphasis in publishing, licensing,
and promotions. Clients include, among others, American
Express, Coca-Cola, Discovery Channel, Harlequin Romances,
and Marvel Entertainment.
Ms. Molino has over 15 years experience in publishing, having
started her publishing with Harry N. Abrams /Stewart Tabori
& Chang, the preeminent publisher of art books and illustrated
design and cookbooks in the United States at the time.
Ms. Molino then moved to Marvel Comics, where she established
a licensed publishing program that included children’s books
(sold to Random House, Golden Books and Disney among others),
as well as adult and young adult novels and illustrated
books sold to Berkley/Putnam and Boxtree in the UK. As part
of her role at Marvel, she hired concept developers, writers
and illustrators to develop the line and create prototypes,
as well as overseeing and approving art and editorial for
the books.
After establishing her consulting business, Ms. Molino worked
for Meredith Corporation (publisher of Better Homes & Gardens
and Ladies’ Home Journal), where she developed custom communication
programs for companies including: Eastman Kodak, Hershey’s
Chocolate, and Healthy Choice. Here again, she lead the
creative team in design and editorial direction for her
clients. Similarly, she developed new business for American
Express Custom Publishing (publishers of Food & Wine and
Travel + Leisure) including a glossy magazine exclusively
for the Auberge Resorts and Spas.
Earlier, Ms. Molino was responsible for selling the illustrated
cookbook Everyday Chinese Cooking to Clarkson N.
Potter, creating the marketing concept of mother-daughter
authors and overseeing the hiring and styling of the photographs
and recipe editing. In addition to highlighting the cultural
heritage of China-born chef and restaurateur Leeann Chin
and her youngest daughter Katie Chin, a budding chef born
and raised in the Mid-Western part of the United States,
the book reflected the ease and health benefits of Asian
cuisine. The authors are now regular guests on the Today
Show and in early ‘04 will begin airing a PBS cooking show:
Double Happiness: Everyday Chinese Cooking. Multi-platform
marketing plans include a 10,000-copy sale of the book to
50 Leeann Chin Inc. Restaurants.
Ms. Molino recently partnered with Hollywood producer Ken
Atchity of AEI Literary Management as a New York representative
specializing in similar corporate-sponsored multi-media
projects and integrated marketing programs for books, magazines,
merchandise and films and is working with The Writer’s Lifeline
to help new writers develop their work for sale as books,
films and corporate print promotions.
