Jeanne
Martin, Ph.D. works in story consulting, research and
development and is known for her ability to apply mythic
themes to the work of her clients. She has been a film conference
panelist and has taught classes to screenwriters on mythology
in film and character development and in film appreciation
on topics such as archetypes and mythic images in film.
Jeanne writes, researches and lectures worldwide on a variety
of topics in ancient mythology and archetypal psychology.
She specializes in applying this knowledge in working with
filmmakers by adding more depth and originality in order
to enhance their story and making it more accessible, interesting
and exciting to their audience.
The perspective she offers is different from most script
consultants in that it provides the unique approach of understanding
the myths and archetypes behind the story and for character
development, adding more depth to the work and making it
more compelling to the audience. She can either work separately
or as a team with other script consultants.
The film does not have to be on ancient mythology. She uses
this knowledge as a tool which works very well for many
different kinds of stories. For example, the theme of the
"Hero’s Journey" popularized by Joseph Campbell has been
used in countless movies which take place in the present,
though it is an ageless archetypal theme.
Jeanne provides research and consulting in the following
areas: ancient mythology (especially Egyptian, Greek and
the Celtic Grail legends), archetypal relationships, epics,
underworld themes, and the metaphysics. She has visited
and researched sacred sites in Egypt, Cyprus, Crete, the
Yucatan, the Southwestern United States, Athens, Rome, Pompeii,
Glastonbury and Stonehenge.
Born and raised in New York, she is currently researching
and writing about the archetypes of the world’s cities and
is particularly interested in working with films involving
topics about Old New York, ancient cities and lost civilizations.
Jeanne has a Doctorate and Master of Arts degree in Mythological
Studies and Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute
in Santa Barbara, CA. Her Bachelor of Arts degree is in
English Literature from Cornell University

Beneath the surface of every
solid story lies a myth that gives it shape. Writer's Lifeline
"mythic analysis" service helps you identify and sharpen your
story by exploring and/or identifying its mythic dimensions.
Once you recognize the myth your story is closest to, you'll
be amazed at how clearly you can see structural problems and
solutions. |
