PAUL DINAS

An editor is the most dedicated and conscientious reader a writer has. His or her vocation is to see into the core of the author’s vision and to help that author make it into the best work of its own unique kind as is humanly possible.

Over my twenty-five year career as a trade editor of commercial fiction and nonfiction, this simple credo has been my guiding light. I’ve edited and published many New York Times best-selling books by authors ranging from health gurus such as Gary Null and Harvey Diamond, celebrity memoirists such as Terri Baker, Scott Hamilton, and David Smith; investigative journalists such as Teresa Carpenter, Aphrodite Jones, Steve Jackson, Phil Carlo and Lowell Cauffiel, and commercial novelists including Fern Michaels, William W. Johnstone, William Wood and Mike Lupica. In each case, my relationship with the author and his or her work was one of respect for their vision and craft. Each case, the finished work gave us all an immense sense of pride – not to mention success in the marketplace.

I’ve held senior editorial positions at The Reader’s Digest, Kensington Publishing Corp., St. Martin’s Press, Harlequin and Avon/Hearst Books. I’ve edited every kind of book from YA fiction to true crime, from thrillers to mysteries and women’s fiction, from self-help and health to humor and pop culture. My hands-on editorial expertise includes the shaping of fiction and nonfiction proposals as well as full and partial manuscripts. My years of working as an acquisition editor have given me a unique insight into both the acquisition and publication processes – which have served client authors well when they market themselves to editors and publishers.

I look forward to hearing from you about how I can help you achieve your personal best as a writer and the ultimate goal of successful publication.

OUR SUCCESS STORIES
literary management Jesse Ventura - We worked with him to find the "mythic substructure" of his life adventure culminating in being elected governor of Minnesota - and built the book, which became a New York Times bestseller, around the "Labors of Hercules."
literary management Steve Alten - After a few months' work with Writer's Lifeline, he went from being broke to having a million dollar studio deal, and a two million dollar book deal to launch his career as a New York Times bestseller.
literary management John Scott Shepherd - He wanted to write it as a screenplay, but we advised him to do the novel first--and it sold in manuscript for $1.6 million to New Line Cinema.
